Meet the Doctors and Providers

John Chamberlain, MD FAAP FACP

(retired:  July 2017)

Dr. Chamberlain is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and is the recipient of many honors for his mentoring of Med-Peds Residents.

He has been in practice since 1981 after completing his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital . He attended University of Nebraska for both college and medical school and is a member of AOA, the national medical honor society.

Dr. Chamberlain has worked extensively with both Preferred Care (MVP) and Blue Choice in addition to his work with the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Physicians.

His interests include roller blading, biking and he is an avid fan of The Big Red.

John and Cindy reside in Greece and have 4 sons. 
 
Lisa Smith MD, FAAP

Dr. Smith is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She is a Clinical Instructor in Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine . She attended Gannon University where she completed the Physician Assistant program. She subsequently graduated from University of Maryland (Summa Cum Laude) and completed her residency at the University of Rochester .

She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (the national medical honor society) and the Monroe County Medical Society.

Dr. Smith is one of the local experts on Punxsutowney Phil and she is an avid supporter of her church, helping them construct a church in Chile, South America.

 

Kristi Cowell, MD

Dr. Cowell is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  She grew up near Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University.  During medical school she was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.  Her residency training in both internal Medicine and Pediatrics was completed at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital. 

Dr. Cowell is a member of the American College of Physicians.  She holds teaching appointments in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester.

She and her husband, Brian, and daughters:  Kaylin and Lauren, live in Rochester with their dog, Lindy Ruff, and enjoy running, hockey, and outdoor activities.


Susan Kindel, MD
 
Dr. Kindel grew up in southeastern Connecticut.  She received her undergraduate degrees in biology and chemistry from Virginia Tech and the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Connecticut.  Her residency training in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics was completed at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital. 

Dr. Kindel is a member of the American College of Physicians.  She holds teaching appointments in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester.
 
She and her husband, Kevin, live in Rochester with their son Liam and daughter Alaina.

 

 

A. Gregg McLanahan, Jr., MD 

Dr. McLanahan is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  He grew up in Casper, Wyoming and received an undergraduate degree in psychology and zoology/physiology from the University of Wyoming.  He attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington.  His residency training in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics was completed at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital.  

Dr. McLanahan is a member of the American College of Physicians.   Prior to joining the practice, he worked as a primary care physician in Laramie, Wyoming. 

He and his wife, Patti, live in Rochester with their daughter, Josie, and their sons: Andy and Evan.  He enjoys spending time with his family as well as participating in a number of outdoor activities.

 


Carrie Marfione, RN, FNP-C 

Carrie is a nurse practitioner graduate from St John Fisher College and joins our team after most recently providing family nurse practitioner services at the R.I.T. Student Health Center, and previously providing school health care services for Marshall High School. Carrie assists our providers through co-management of our patients of all ages, as well as for cross coverage of our practice patient panel for acute illness. Additionally she looks forward to contributing to our practice focus on quality / practice improvement initiatives.

Carrie grew up in Rochester and attended Penfield High School. She married her husband Paul in 2013 and they have a baby girl named Giada. 

 

 

Bryan J. Stanistreet, MD

(joined:  July 2017)

Dr. Stanistreet is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He grew up in Syracuse and received an undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Notre Dame in Economics and Pre-Professional Studies. He attended medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society and Gold Humanism Society. His residency training in both internal Medicine and Pediatrics was completed at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital. He was recognized with the Humanism in Medicine Teaching Award during his residency.

 Dr. Stanistreet recently served as the chief resident for the internal medicine -pediatrics residency program, providing guidance for residents and acting as a primary care provider at a practice in the city of Rochester.

He and his wife, live in Rochester with their two young children. He enjoys spending time with his family, a wide variety of athletics, especially Syracuse and Notre Dame football and is actively involved in his church.
